Día de los Muertos is more than a celebration — it's a declaration that love outlasts death. Through music, art, storytelling, and tradition, Brazoria County comes together every year to keep the flame of memory burning bright. This October and November, a full month of events, exhibitions, and competitions across our community invites you to honor the past, celebrate the present, and connect with each other.

Día de los Muertos Storytime

The Lake Jackson Historical Association hosts a bilingual storytime in partnership with the Lake Jackson Library. Join us for a storytime in both English and Spanish to celebrate Día de los Muertos! A sugar skull craft will follow the story.

Los Vivos y Los Muertos: Art Competition Reception

A reception and awards presentation for artists accepted into the Los Vivos y Los Muertos juried exhibition and their guests. A Best in Show prize of $1,000 will be awarded to a single piece, along with a single runner-up prize of $300. The exhibition itself runs through November 2, 2026.

This Día de los Muertos exhibit explores the rich history and enduring cultural significance of ofrendas — the colorful, symbolic altars created to honor and remember loved ones who have passed. Through vibrant displays and traditional elements like marigolds, candles, photos, and favorite foods, visitors gain a deeper understanding of how this sacred tradition connects generations and blends Indigenous and Spanish influences.
